Review :

” Bucket List of a Traveloholic is a refreshing read with new adventures at every page and new destination at every chapter. Stands tall to its promise of being the best roller-coaster ride of this year. Far more interesting than the fancy fiction tales. A unique experience! “

With it’s interesting cover and a unique title, the book has an unnatural appeal. Honestly speaking, I was intrigued after the first look at the book as it  was my first encounter with a ‘non-fiction’ book. The cover itself is very catchy and strong enough to gain anyone’s attention.

The book starts off at a good pace and the pace is maintained throughout the book with little highs and lows. The book delivers what it promises, a unique reading-cum-travelling experience. The book might not have the characters or story-line of a fiction book but it never allows you to lose your interest, the author makes sure of that.

The books takes you from Spain to Egypt, from UK to Brussels, from Greece to South Africa, Russia and much more. And just within hours you feel like you’ve just returned from a world tour. There are places you might not have heard of before. And that’s the beauty of this book, knowledge through entertainment.

Sarika’s style of narration, her command over language and beautiful presentation style keeps you glued to the pages. With each passing chapter you feel like you know the author much more than you think. Some of the experiences are beautifully presented and are so vivid, you just feel yourself immersed in the scenery. It feels like you were there, with the author, at every step, unheard and unnoticed.

Some of the parts I really liked in the book are trips to Spain, UK, Greece, Romania, Israel and Czech Republic. The chapter on Israel gives a beautiful insight of people and culture of Jerusalem, the birth place of Jesus. The Romanian version takes you through the vampire history. And the Greece part, well, it justifies the word “traveloholic”. The Czech portion briefs you on the history of Franz Kafka and his time in the country. The Spanish portion is sublime and beautiful. The beauty of Spain reflects amazingly through author’s words.

There is a sudden urge to travel as soon as you’re finished with the book. It’s a totally refreshing experience, specially if you’re into fictions and stuff. A totally different reading experience!(an amazing one)

It was just amazing to know Sarika through her book. She definitely is a well read and well traveled person. We can only guess the level of intellect she posses for a part of it is reflected in the book. I would definitely love to know the author better after reading her book. And I wish that she travels more and more, to the remaining parts of the world(if there are any left) and present her readers with more amazing experiences, more adventures. Consider it a ‘fan appeal’.  After reading fiction and fantasy books one after the another, this one was a much required KNOCKOUT.

All the best to Sarika for her book. From what I know about books, Bucket List is a book worth reading. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is into reading. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed.

INTERVIEW #10 (ARTI HONRAO)

Today we have with us, Miss Arti Honrao Ma’am. She’s the author of Resemblance- Journey of a doppelganger. So without wasting any more time, here goes our interview session with her.

Q.  Let’s start with a formal introduction. Tell us something about your daily schedule and the things which define you and your lifestyle.

A.  My daily schedule? Well, I am single and I stay with my parents, I do the daily chores like every woman does. I spend time playing with my nephew. I read and I write. I do not like being ‘defined’ by anything in particular, so I will skip that question. My lifestyle can be summed up in one word – simple.

Q. Tell us about novel ‘Resemblance- Journey of a doppelganger’. How you get the idea of writing such a different kind of a story.

A.  The plot/idea had been there at the back of my mind for months, I just could not find time to put it on paper. Whenever I closed my eyes, I would visualize these characters. The first hospital scene kept replaying in my mind for weeks before I thought about what would happen next. When I finally thought about the meeting outside the hospital building where the protagonists talk to each another in a park that is when I started writing the story. Even then, I did not know how I would end the story. I just went on writing. This story was published on my blog (http://www.artihonrao.net) as and when it was written. I completed the entire story in about a month.

Q.  Your novel is about feelings and the divine hand over the human lives. What’s your view?

A.  I personally believe in feelings. I prefer to give more importance to emotions, in my writing as well as in my personal life. Emotions govern human lives, we accept it or not.

Q. You are an author, blogger, book reviewer, relationship advisor, administrator & web designer of writer’s ezine; how keep up the balance between all these?

A.  I do not take too many efforts to differentiate or balance these roles. It just becomes easier when you are passionate about what you do. I have been writing for many years, now. Book reviews started recently. Relationship advice started couple of years ago as a section on my blog “Whispered Words” even though I used to reply to emails I received regarding advice. The emails I received after people read the post on Virgo Woman, is what actually made me start the section in first place. To know that my words make a difference to someone’s live makes me feel happy (and honored) and I am passionate about it. As far as my role in Writer’s Ezine is concerned, I am able to do justice to it because of the support and encouragement of my co-admin. And, once again – I am passionate about it as well. Since I work mostly at nights, the peace and silence around me helps me to concentrate in my work, taking less time than what I would have needed during the day.

Q. Tell us about Writer’s Ezine.

A.  Writer’s Ezine (http//www.writersezine.com)  is a monthly literary online magazine started by a friend of mine, Namrata & me. You can read behind the WE story here > http://writersezineblog.blogspot.in/2014/04/the-story.html

WE has recently released its 2nd issue (May) and we are overwhelmed with the response WE has received. WE is non-profiting online magazine. We have even refused offers of advertisements, a couple of literature lovers have offered to sponsor the prizes we gives to the winners and we have allowed it after a lot of discussion and consideration. Right now, the hard work, efforts and expenses are shared alike by Namrata & me.

 GVi4lP3u

Q. Are you currently working on a new project? Would you like to share something about that?

A.  Right now, there is too much on the plates. I squeeze out time to write a few poems, a few I post on my blog and a few simply go in the diary as they are written only to keep myself sane. I do have a project in mind, compiling the short stories on my blog and make a book out of it, however I have not been able to give much time to it. Maybe in near future. There is yet another story idea floating around, it might come out as a Novel, though I am not sure when that would be. Right now, I like bringing new talents into limelight.

Q.  According to you, what’s the most difficult part of writing?

A.  To write what you do not believe in, but are sure would make sense to those who read. Though, frankly speaking I never do that. Apart from this, to put-forth your point of view on a serious subject, giving voice to your thoughts, your opinions becomes difficult if there are too many people talking about the same issue, chances are not many people would agree with what you have got to say about it.

Q. Do you read? Who’s your favorite author? And your favorite book?

A. Yes, I read. I love reading, I have a decent collection of books in my book-shelf. It is too difficult to pick one book from the ocean of books. There are couple of books that made a difference in my life. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Q.  What’s the importance of writing in your life?

A. Writing is very important for me. Writing allows me to maintain peace of my mind, writing allows me to explore some situations from a third person’s perspective, sometimes helping me to take a decision. Fictions gives me a chance to step out of real life and step into a world where emotions of protagonists are mine Their fear is mine, their problems are mine and sometimes that helps me find a solution to a real life situation. I cannot imagine myself without writing. I would like to quote Isaac Asimov here – I write for the same reason I breathe – because if I didn’t, I would die.

Q.  What is your advice for young and budding writers?

A.  Write, write and write. Keep writing. However, write for yourself rather than for audience. When you write for yourself, you are being true to yourself and that is when people will really like you and truly appreciate you for what you are. Write for audience and you might end up losing the real person, the real you.

Q. Your view about us, i.e., “The Author’s Blog”.

A. You are doing a commendable job providing exposure to talented debutant authors, reviewing their books and interviewing them. Keep up the good work and deliver what you promise.

So that’s all with Arti Honrao Ma’am. We wish her best of luck for future and hope she reaches the heights in her career.

We will be soon back with some more interviews, book reviews and fictional works. So stay with us and keep on Tabbing.

MAVERICK BY GAURAV YADAV (BOOK REVIEW)

They met for the first time in their golden era i.e., school time. Though their first meeting was not so pleasant that could be cherished ever by them but he knew from that very first time that she’s the girl he always wanted to have. Dilaveez aka Maverick was destined to meet his love Naina but how long he have to wait for that very moment when Naina accepts him was only know to the destiny.

The story is quite sweet in the beginning. Author will make you relive your school life once again and it would be difficult for you to resist yourself from thinking of your school love (Or Crush) and then suddenly story drastically changes and takes the reader to a totally new dimension, new heights with the evolution of Maverick from a school boy to a fighter pilot of IAF.

Personally I liked the story of the second half. It did justice with the cover and the main theme of the whole book. I felt the school times a bit weak and way too long. The story of Maverick’s second half is commendable.

Talking about the romance part, I think Maverick’s chemistry matched with Dr. Ayesha more than that of Naina. The whole episode of Pakistan is beautifully thought and executed. The best thing about the author is that he hasn’t exaggerated anything way too much while writing the story.

Now commenting over the writing style of the author, well it could have been more interesting. He had a beautiful story in his mind but he failed to write that down on the paper. First half has really disappointed me but the second half is far better. Author has written some great action sequences in air and those are really breath taking. Climax is also very touching. Episodes happened in Pakistan are well framed.

Overall I would give it 3/5.

SECTION-WISE REVIEW OF ‘THE UNWANTED SHADOW’ – PART 3

SECTION-WISE REVIEW OF ‘THE UNWANTED SHADOW’…
(PART-3) (TILL CHAPTER SEVEN)

Slowly, the story has started to take up the pace required to bind the reader. Suspense was about to take up after the death of a family member of Mohan in pretty awkward condition but then again author leaves that section unsolved and takes up the reader to normalcy. I am liking the way he is creating the environment.

SECTION-WISE REVIEW (THE UNWANTED SHADOW) (Part-2)

(TILL CHAPTER ‘FOUR’)
There’s nothing new in the background story of protagonist. He lives in a family where education for girls is of no use and dreams never existed. In such an environment Mohan dreams to live his life on his wish.
Now in this section of the novel, author has played a very nice gamble to present the story in such a great pace that it doesn’t gets boring.
In between this, the author also promises to deliver something great ahead in the book with lines like ‘he thought this but he didn’t knew that.’ It creates the mood for the book.
I hope that the story takes up the fast gear soon.

The Exam Chronicle 3

I’ve dealt with some of the stress busters and pre-exam stresses in my 1st and 2nd articles. So now let’s have a look at a very critical phase, the phase which decides our post-exam fate, the day before exam. Especially, the phase when you are done with the studies and are prepared for the exam, i.e., the POST-STUDY TRAUMA. This is a very interesting period as it has its own pros and cons.

Let’s have a look at some of the situations you may encounter during this period –

  • Unusual irritation (Don’t confuse this with the irritation caused by improper and irregular bathing…that’s a different case!)
  • Free time (Actually time is always free, it’s us who are caged)
  • More study (Studying it again and again won’t change the syllabus… so don’t bother)
  • Urge to call your friends (It’s the primary nature of a dominator to demoralize other…  because to stay on top, one must make sure that other don’t)
  • Fear of failure ( A normal mind retains 60% of what it has learnt… so there is no chance of failure… unless you are CONGRESS)
  • A look at previous year’s paper (Now this is when reality dawns upon you…time to study… to books and beyond!)
  • Take a stroll (Exposure to new environment and conditions may lead to loss of data already stored… if you know what I mean)
  • More food (There’s always a chance of food poisoning… I would prefer fast until exam)
  • Watch TV (Well if you’re MODI fan then go for it!)
  • Close your eyes and relax (DAMN! The secret of success!!)

So these were some of the situations you might encounter during this phase. Make sure you choose the right ones. There is always a slight chance to convert this POST-STUDY TRAUMA into POST-STUDY RELIEF. Stay cool, stay blessed!

As Life Has No Undo… By Abir Mukherjee

Life has no Undo

Title : As Life Has No Undo
Author : Abir Mukherjee
Pages : 301
Genre : Romance
Publication : Blackbuck Publication

Ratings :

Cover : 3/5
Blurb : 2/5
Theme : 2.5/5
Story : 2.5/5
Writing & Style : 2.5/5
Characters : 3.5/5
Overall : 2.5/5

Overview :

As Life Has No Undo is an episode of teenage romance describing how things and priorities change with time and age. Ankit is a simple boy belonging to a middle class bengali family. Shreeja is a pretty, ambitious and career oriented girl. The story circles around the teenage romance of these two till Debdeep enters the scene.

How Ankit faces these gradual changes in his life? Would his life ever be the same? Does life has a undo button?

Highlights :
  • Good presentation of story and plot.
  • Good characterization.
  • Interesting cover.
  • Simplicity in writing and ideology.
Setbacks :
  • Fails to deliver something new.
  • Becomes a li’l ‘stretchy’ in the middle.
  • The transition from Ankit’s ‘love phase’ to ‘mad romeo phase’ could have been smoother.
  • Lacks a certain level of pace.
Review :

“Snapshots of teenage love and it’s consequences. Good presentation. A simple read.”

This book talks of a phase in our lives where we fall in love and are determined to do anything and everything to sustain it. Ankit, our male protagonist of the book, is our romeo. He falls in love with this girl Shreeja, which starts with a simple bet. But slowly Ankit falls in love with Shreeja and forgets about the bet.

Now we’ve all heard and seen these type of love tales. The main setback of this is that it fails o deliver something new. In an era where everything is already written and documented, one is always looking forward to get his hands on something new. Albeit this is not one of those books.

The presentation and writing style of the author is quite good. You can connect with the story at some point or other. Love and romance fans can enjoy it. The book has an essence of friendship, love, betrayal, depression and much more.

The transition part  of Ankit’s ‘love life’ to ‘no love life’ could have been a li’l smoother. The way Deba, under the hood, makes his way to  Shreeja could have been much ore interesting. The gang sequences of Ankit and his friends are pretty good and lifelike.

The book is a good read but i found the content repeated. Halfway through the story and nothing interesting. It demotivates the reader to continue with the story. Maybe because this is the story of most of our Indian teenagers, I found it repeated. Other than that, it’s a good read. Go for it if you are a fan of love, romance and betrayal drama. All the best to Abir for his book.
